What the choir “Jauna muzika” is preparing for the festival will really be “the bomb”. “If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst into the sky, that would be like the splendour of the mighty one, and now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds” – these words, a quote from the Hindu holy scripture Bhagavad Gītā, were uttered after the first artificial explosion of the nuclear bomb in America on 16 July 1945 by its inventor Robert Oppenheimer. The same words are used by one of the most interesting contemporary Lithuanian composers Justė Janulytė in reference to her new work “Radiance” dedicated to the memory of the 70th anniversary of the first explosion of the nuclear bomb. This work by Janulytė is also dedicated to Arvo Pärt, the most famous Estonian composer of all times whose 80th anniversary is widely celebrated this year. On that occasion in the first part of the concert the choir “Jauna muzika” will perform Pärt’s vocal works that have a great appeal to audiences in many countries of the world.
