Eight male voices instead of an orchestra. This is no fantasy story. This is the pride of Austria, the winners of the World Choirs Championship – the Voices Unlimited vocal ensemble.
When these a cappella (vocals without accompaniment) enthusiasts gathered at their first rehearsal, they could not even imagine that just a few years later audiences of 8,000 would be cheering their ovations in China, that they would be invited to appear in the most famous concert halls, or that they would become Salzburg’s cultural ambassadors to the world.
Yet these achievements are not the most important reason why tickets to the ensemble’s appearance sell out several weeks ahead of concert dates, or why the public always demands encores. The singers combine professionalism with a good dose of humour, show elements, choreography, and even accessories. So whatever it might be that they sing, whether it’s a medieval madrigal, or Michael Jackson’s songs, it is sure to be new and original. Voices Unlimited aren’t afraid of breaking standards, and more than justify their title!
