Some Strange Felicity

Musical scenes from Shakespeare's dramas

September 14, Wednesday, 7 pm, Palace of the Grand Dukes, Katedros a. 4

Sospiri ardenti (Belgium): Ellen Delahanty – soprano and recorders, Julie Comparini – mezzo-soprano and dance, Geert Van Gele – recorders and harpsichord, Jurgen De bruyn – lute and archlute

The Belgian ensemble Sospiri ardenti has prepared an excellent festival of action, humour, narration and images. Marking the 400th anniversary of the great English poet and playwright, William Shakespeare, these musicians have opened the pages of his two most popular comedies. Shakespeare was after all no stranger to the musical world, often including musical moments in his dramas. This dramatic concert will revive the magical characters from the phantasmagorical world of The Tempest, while the joyous comedy The Twelfth Night will see passions set free by the music, dances and instrumental works of 16th and 17th-century English composers. Rarely will you have the chance to hear such an original musical interpretation of Shakespeare’s unforgettable plays!
