The society instils gender stereotypes inside us from childhood. Pink is for girls, cars are for boys, girls play with dolls and boys just don’t cry. Gender – the sexuality of personality – is much more than a biological phenomenon, it’s a social phenomenon too. The essence of what it means to be a man or a woman is not based solely on the amount of oestrogen or testosterone in the body, it’s rather the result of the social influence or decision, education, the process of socialisation. Welcome to the fantasy world in which the masculine and feminine principles might not be the same as the ones of men and women. The project results from a creative meeting of two distinctive choreographers and performers who have met in the successful project “Much More Than Nothing”. Movement and dance become in this project a means to express the contrast between the expression of body and soul, between genetic givens and social prejudices in an attempt to challenge the various social stereotypes and explore the theme of gender purely in a physical way.

Peter Šavel obtained a bachelor’s degree at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (Pedagogy of Modern Dance) and then graduated from P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels in 2010. He danced in a number of works by renowned Slovak and international authors such as T. Hauert, S. Sanchis, D. Zambrano, W. Vandekeybus or A. T. de Keersmaeker. After being accepted to P.A.R.T.S., he began working on his own choreographies. Boys who like to play with dolls is his third artwork in the prestigious selection by Aerowaves network. He currently lives and works in Brussels where he cooperates with Pierre Droulers and develops his own projects.

In 2006, Tereza Ondrová graduated from the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Department of Dance Pedagogy. She is the founder of a dance ensemble VerTeDance within which she has so far created 16 projects together with Veronika Kotlíková; three of them were awarded by the most prestigious award in the field of Czech contemporary dance – Dance Piece of the Year Prize (2005, 2012 and 2014). In 2010, she herself was awarded the Dancer of the Year Prize. As a performer, she collaborated with DOT 504, Anton Lahký, Olga Cobos, Peter Mika, Nir de Vollf, Felix Ruckert, Thomas Steyaert and others.
